Testimonials from our Customers
It is our pleasure to recommend Nye Construction and Dick Nye in particular who we selected to build our retirement home overlooking Lake Michigan. After extensive research over several years we decided to go with Dick Nye as the general contractor due to his willingness to take over the project completely as we had a home in Florida and traveled to Michigan in our motor home and we couldn’t be there for all phases of construction. Dick Nye agreed to accept the entire project including all permitting, hiring sub-contractors for surveying, clearing and preparing the site, well, plumbing, cement, and septic as well as numerous other projects.
We had owned our property since the 1970’s and in late 1980's the Federal Government declared some areas along the shore as “Critical Dunes” and any improvements to be overseen by the state. Our Lake Michigan property fell into this category and required a special permit from the state. We hired an environmental architect to provide site layout and usage specifications and act as liaison with the Department of Environmental Quality. After many frustrating months and numerous phone calls to the DEQ, the permit was finally approved. Had it not been for Dick, we would have given up and cancelled the project. Our home was finally set and closed.
Dick’s workmen are very knowledgeable, dependable and have a high work ethic. They stayed with the construction through some adverse weather conditions and wrapped up the project with completion of a second floor deck across the front and down one side of the house. We have had a lot of comments relative to the quality of workmanship and are pleased with the outcome.

It is a pleasure to write a couple of sentences for you. It was an extreme pleasure to work with Nye Construction Company. After researching four modular home builders, we chose Nye Construction to build our retirement home. Nye's whole organization is first class, honest and dependable. They live up to their reputation. We would recommend Nye Construction to all interested in building a modular home.

As first time builders, Nye Construction made the entire process stress free and easy. Richard answered our numerous questions, explaining everything. He willingly researched products we were interested in adding to the home. All details were coordinated and we were always kept informed. Richard goes above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the finished product. The house has been in place for over a year and we are absolutely thrilled and feel we made the best decision in choosing Nye Construction as our contractor.

Nye Construction built our waterfront home in Grand Marais during the summer of 2008. It is a two story GHC model with several modifications and premium features including three dormers, a side porch, a steel roof, and a custom fireplace. Despite the complexity, we were able to move into our house just two months after the trucks arrived on site. Dick Nye and his subs were always there when they said they would be, the work was always first rate, and the price was always right. The finished product is beautiful, and is at least as solid as any stick-built house. If you are considering a modular home, we highly recommend Nye Construction Company. We could not be more pleased.

We were very impressed with Nye Construction from the beginning. Dick met us at the DeTour Ferry dock so we wouldn't have to pay a car fare when meeting him to look at homes in DeTour.
Also, he was extremely helpful when he came to Drummond Island to help us position our house on our lot. He had great suggestions for the furnace, kitchen sink and many more interior and exterior details.
His staff is the best in that they always return phone calls and go out of their way to help.
Thank you Nye Construction!!!

We received our occupancy permit at the end of January 2001. The quality of construction, the timely updates of the building progress by your staff was welcome, living so far away from everything at the time. The whole building process was just great. I cannot say enough good things about your company and staff. I am still impressed.
There was a time about one year after the home was built when I damaged the siding on my garage. I called you up looking for material to repair it myself. Then one day shortly after my call, you showed up with a crew and replaced my damaged siding at no cost. Thank you.
Anyone looking for a construction company to build their home, addition or just remodeling need look no further. As you say in you advertisements "For all the right reasons". I concur.

We spent over six months of research and correspondence to replace our 100 year old family cottage in Grand Marais. Our project was unique in some respects since it was distant from normal construction trades and required selection of a modular cottage and desired modifications sight unseen. Also included was the demolition and disposal of the old cottage.
We were extremely fortunate to locate and have Richard Nye take on our project. The hundreds of details were handled in a professional manner from demolition to hands-on instruction to winterize the finished cottage. Making sure the customer is satisfied, from inception to completion, is the byword of Nye Construction. All details were taken care of efficiently and promptly. We had a contractor with our interests in the forefront. Our only regret is that we don't have another project that we could have Nye Construction handle for us.

To whom it may concern:
After much preliminary research on the advantages of stick built and modular homes, we decided that modular would best meet our needs when building a new cottage/lake home. We met Dick Nye in the summer of 2005 and were very impressed with his knowledge and with the product he had to show us. During the winter and spring of 2005-2006 Dick spent many hours with us as we planned and replanned making suggestions and offering his expertise. We were able to decide exactly how we wanted the floor plan to be and were given complete latitude on the kitchen design.
Dick was quite specific about what to expect and, best of all, when he said he or his crew would be there, they were. The whole building process went off with only minor hitches and very quickly - we broke ground in early July and moved in on August 31, with only minor things to be done after that. Throughout the process we found everyone pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. Each person took pride in the work they were doing and the final product is wonderful.
It is with pleasure that we highly recommend GHC (General Housing Corporation) homes and especially Dick Nye, his staff and crews.

When we made the decision to put a home on our lot in Hessel, right away we thought modular. We felt it would be the most timely solution to meet our needs.
We met with Dick, discussed our options and he suggested to look at the Ritz-Craft vacation homes. He showed us a home in Cedarville that was similar to what we wanted to end up with. It was very helpful to see a home in progress.
We decided on a Ritz-Craft Chalet, made some modifications to fit our needs and began the process of picking out cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc. All went very smoothly. We are very pleased with the finished house and we really enjoyed working closely with Dick and his crew. We felt all the subcontractors were of the highest quality and that they completed each portion of their jobs to keep the project on schedule. The job site was kept picked up and orderly. We are very happy with our home and would be proud to show it off.
